Research Awards Jesús Serra

8th edition

The Research Awards Jesús Serra are an initiative of the Foundation, part of GCO, which was created in 1998 with the aim of channelling the Group’s sponsorship and patronage activities.

  • The awards support and acknowledge the success of researchers in Spain in the fields of basic, clinical, epidemiological and technological research, contributing to the development and dissemination of work that achieves major advances in the field of nutrition, diet and health.
  • Furthermore, the call includes the 2nd edition of the Special Awards for Scientific Communication Federico Halpern. This accolade recognizes professional careers dedicated to rigorous, high-impact science communication focused on food, nutrition, and health. Unlike the Research Awards, these Special Awards do not accept self-nominations: candidates must be nominated by third parties.
  • In this way, the Research Awards reinforce their commitment not only to excellence in food, nutrition, and health research, but also to high-quality, evidence-based science communication. Their goal is to promote a shift in narratives on these topics within the media, medical consultations, and society in general.
  • Candidates must be researchers, Spanish or foreigners, who have a minimum of three years working on research in Spain, endorsed by their project managers or recognised professionals of good standing, and not have reached the age of 46 on the closing date of this call, April 28, 2026 at 14h CET. The researcher’s age may exceed 46 if the candidate has temporarily interrupted his or her career as a result of the birth or adoption of children and their care during the first months of life. The financial prize is €100,000 gross, divided between the two categories, basic and clinical, i.e. €50,000 each.
  • Nutrition and food are the cornerstones of good health and contribute to physical, emotional and social well-being.
  • Many studies confirm the impact that lifestyles and eating habits can have on preventing diseases and conditions such as coronary heart disease, high cholesterol, diabetes, cancer and obesity.
  • The Mediterranean diet, a major factor in preventing chronic disease, has contributed to making Spain one of the best-positioned countries to carry out studies on how nutrition helps to prevent disease and promotes healthy ageing.
  • Both applications are open from 10 March to 28 April 2026 at 14h CET, in Spanish or in English, through the website.
  • The jury is formed of prestigious professionals in the field of medicine and biology from leading national and international research centres.
