We are now Occident

We are now Fundación Occident.Same commitment, with a new name

Fundación Occident is born

As part of GCO's corporate simplification process, Fundación Jesús Serra changes its name to Fundación Occident in order to accompany and strengthen ties with the Group's new traditional business brand, Occident. In that regard, the organisation will continue with its main lines of action and maintain alive the memory of GCO's founder, Jesús Serra Santamans, by carrying out strategic projects named after him.

The Foundation upholds the same commitment as up to now, with a new name. The institution was established in 1998 with the purpose of channelling the patronage activities carried out by Jesús Serra Santamans, founder of GCO and Seguros Catalana Occidente, on a corporate basis. It was initially called Fundación Catalana Occidente, but in 2006, as a way of recognition, the entity's name was changed to Fundación Jesús Serra. Now, under the name Fundación Occident, it will maintain the same spirit as it has so far and will continue promoting its five lines of action: research, education, culture, sport and social action.

If one thing singled out Jesús Serra, it was his great humanitarian vocation, focused on preserving the principle of equal opportunities. This spirit has led us to launch many projects through the foundation, year after year, aimed at integration, promotion of human rights, scientific development and culture. In short, progress aimed at generating a positive impact on society.

Following along the path traced in recent years, Fundación Occident will focus on fostering projects, either of its own or in partnership with third parties, in the field of scientific research, especially geared towards young researchers in Spain. Preserving the principle of equal opportunities in training through various scholarship programmes. Backing a range of programmes to support children and their families, focusing on training, emotional and nutritional support, both in Spain and in international cooperation. It will also have an impact on spreading and raising awareness about solutions to preserve and regenerate our natural environment. Fostering adapted and inclusive sport, where all sportsmen and women have the same opportunities in a diverse environment. And it will continue to advocate for and encourage accessibility to culture through a range of programmes on the universal practice of the piano, poetic creation and modern and contemporary art.

The memory of GCO's founder will continue to live through the strategic projects, which will bear his name, carried out by the foundation in each of the lines of action, following the humanist spirit that he promoted.
