Fundación Occident and Ecoalf:Against marine litter

Fundación Occident and Fundación Ecoalf join forces against marine litter

Fundación Occident and Fundación Ecoalf have signed a key partnership agreement to tackle marine pollution. This alliance is part of Fundación Ecoalf’s "Clean Rivers, Save Oceans" project, which aims to stop waste from reaching the oceans, since 80% of marine litter comes from rivers.

Joint actions under the Fundación Occident and Fundación Ecoalf agreement for 2025–2027

Over the next three years, Fundación Occident will actively support this environmental project through several key initiatives:

  • Volunteering: 29 citizen and corporate volunteering days will be organised, with 16 in the Community of Madrid and 13 in the Valencian Community. Fundación Occident will involve GCO employees and their families in these waste collection activities.
  • School awareness: 20 awareness-raising sessions will be held in schools (14 in Madrid and 6 in the Valencian Community), with content adapted in the latter region to the recent flooding there.
  • Research: scientific sampling will be carried out to analyse the presence of micro- and macroplastics in the rivers of the Community of Madrid.

This collaboration reinforces Fundación Occident’s commitment to sustainability and environmental education, joining an initiative already recognised for its measurable impact and numerous awards since its creation in 2020.

Ongoing commitment to sustainability

Fundación Occident demonstrates a strong and continuous commitment to environmental protection. In addition to this new alliance, it collaborates with organisations such as Save the Med and Fundación Ecomar. These collaborations include projects such as "Save the Med Changemakers" and "Gamechangers", which educate and raise awareness among secondary school and university students about marine conservation, encouraging their active participation. The Foundation also regularly organises volunteer days for beach clean-ups with Fundación Ecomar, involving GCO employees (Occident, Crédito y Caución, GCO Ventures and Prepersa).

These combined actions reflect Fundación Occident’s dedication to raising public awareness about the vital importance of caring for and preserving our natural environment for present and future generations.
