Fundación Occident's Jesús Serra Degree Scholarships are grants for university studies for young people who want to be the first to overcome all the obstacles in their way. The first in their family to go to university or the first in their family to study STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) courses. The first to become part of a mentorship community that will help them to go even further in life.
Fundación Occident is offering 12 scholarships for two access routes:
First generation of university students: Six scholarships for students who want to be the first in their family to study at university. It is open to all areas of knowledge.
First generation of women in STEM: Six scholarships for students who want to be the first in their family to earn a STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) degree.

The students selected in the first call come from seven Spanish regions. Specifically, Extremadura, Galicia, Castile and Leon, Basque Country, Valencia, Catalonia and Andalusia. In route 1, they will be enrolled in degrees as diverse as Mathematics, Industrial Engineering, Psychology, Economics & International Studies, and Medicine. In route 2, they will be enrolled in Architecture, a Double Degree in Mathematics and Computer Engineering or Computer Engineering and Statistics, Biotechnology, Medicine and Biomedical Engineering.

In addition to covering the public cost of enrolment in Spanish universities, the Jesús Serra Degree Scholarships provide support for training in languages, programming or other skills related to their studies, as well as a financial supplement based on the family's income and residence, especially when the student does not live near their university centre.
However, what makes these scholarships unique is the mentoring and continuous training programme with which the scholarship holders will be accompanied by a mentor throughout all their studies and prepare for the leap to the labour market or to postgraduate studies. The programme additionally combines virtual and face-to-face training sessions to build cross-cutting skills. To encourage participation in this programme, the scholarship also offers a complementary contribution linked to its use which is worth €3,000 a year.
